2020 Leap for the Colors

Join the Arts Council of Wayne County and Southeastern Cancer Care for our LEAP FOR THE COLORS event at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park swim beach on Saturday, February 29th. We encourage participants to form a team, collect pledges from friends, family and co-workers, then dress head-to-toe in colorful costumes and LEAP into the winter waters at the park’s swim beach to benefit the Southeastern Cancer Center and the Arts Council of Wayne County. This is a family event and a great activity for civic groups, churches, sports teams, student groups and other community-minded organizations to participate in together while having fun for a great cause!

About Leap for the Colors

Brave and passionate for their cause might be the best way to describe the participants in the 2020 Leap for the Colors, which will take place Feb. 29 at the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park!

That’s when teams from across the county will compete to see how much money they can raise by soliciting sponsors to support their leap into the icy waters of the Neuse River.  It’s all for a good cause … make that two causes:  Southeastern Cancer Care and the Arts Council of Wayne County.

The name Leap for the Colors comes from two other area fundraisers, the well-known Cures for the Colors Run, sponsored annually in April to raise money to support cancer patients, and the lesser-known Pink Plunge, which was created by the Arts Council in 2017 as a joint fundraiser for the arts and breast cancer patients.

When the October 2018 Plunge event was moved to February 2020 because of Hurricane Florence, organizers decided to broaden the scope of the event to include all cancer patients.

Dr. Samer Kasbari, oncologist as Southeastern Medical Oncology, will speak at the event. Vendors will be on-site with activities for children. Refreshments will be available from Pink Piggy Sweets and The Gypsy Bean Coffee Shop.

Prizes will be awarded for the largest team, the team raising the most money, the most spirited team, and the best costumes.

Need help organizing a team or want to learn more about the event,
